I can’t do Internet radio. I’ve tried them all and the only one that ever serves me remotely well is last.fm. I’m not willing to pay $10/mo to get that on my phone either, though.

I thought Pandora sucked when it was new and it has gotten better, but just barely. It’s still my last resort.

Some unknown station played Kaki King -> acoustic Barenaked Ladies -> Sia to my sister. I then tried to play Brandi Carlile on Spotify and it’s given me “We Found Love” -> Savage Garden -> Eric Clapton, which barely makes sense and definitely wasn’t what I wanted to listen to.

While I used my rdio trial a lot, I didn’t even consider paying for it. No better than any other service, and it doesn’t give me anything I can’t get from grooveshark except scrobbling

Wrong as it is, in a couple of ways, I still judge people who don’t know how to pirate. That YouTube to mp3 shit doesn’t count.

What I actually do really like is this Kimbra song, though. It’s the one good thing I got out of listening to about 20 hours of the Sirius AltNation station this past week. The funny thing about Sirius is that they like to do these top 18 countdowns, but each station only seems to play about 18 songs each.

I see that it’s attributed first to Mark Foster and A-Trak but because an earlier version of “Warrior” is a bonus track on Vows I’m going to continue thinking of it as a Kimbra song anyway.

Carly Rae Jepson put out a single with Owl City. Remember Owl City? They’re that crossover Christian band who rips off the Postal Service and thinks it’s weird to hate goodbyes.

The song is called “Good Time” and it’s aggressively optimistic. I can’t say I’m having a very good time listening to it, though. I feel a bit like I’m stuck on the “It’s a Small World” ride at Disney World with a youth group who thinks it’s couth to sing along as loud as they can while yelling about how much good clean fun they’re having.

In fact, I will be surprised if youth groups around the country don’t adopt this as their anthem. It doesn’t specifically mention God but we all know that they can have such a good time without even having to try because they’ve got Jesus on their side. Owl City already has the Christian music background, and if CRJ sounds like a “whoo girl,” it’s only because she’s high on life. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

“Good Time” is offensively inoffensive and will probably be well-received by fans of High School Musical. I need a drink or twelve.

After listening to “Good Time” three times to write this post, I honestly think Rebecca Black’s “Friday” is a better song. I’m praying that I don’t ever have to listen to this ever again to compare. At least Friday doesn’t “whoo!”

Metronomy - Everything Goes My Way

I have to assume Metronomy will get better with their next album. The English Riviera has some strong tracks on it, like “We Broke Free” and “The Look,” but overall it’s fairly underwhelming. “Everything Goes My Way” has been stuck in my head for the past few days, so I guess it’s fair to say it’s pretty good. This blog is little more than “songs that are stuck in my head right now” anyway.

If I had any previous stylistic assumptions about Katy Goodman’s La Sera (I did), they were all proven quite false the moment I heard the first note of the super fuzzed-out bass on her new single “Please Be My Third Eye”. Some melodically beautifully melding of Snoozer and Henry’s Dress comes to mind—with less feedback, of course. “Please Be My Third Eye” precedes LA Sera’s sophomore LP ‘Sees The Light’, which will be be out March 27th on Hardly Art!

Song of the day. I like this a lot more than anything I’ve heard by Vivian Girls.
